Well...I am Finally updating!

Yes...it's been a long time since I have entered a new post, but here it is. I have really been busy with my Multiple Sclerosis Support Group, the Lions Club, singing...streaming...just enjoying life.
Trying to get my two oldest through exam week at college will be interesting. I hope we all will survive it. To top that off, I have to take a trip to Nashville that same week to see my MS doc.

Things will get better, I know they will. It has been so beautiful weather-wise, and now snow is back in the forecast for tomorrow. Surely not at the end of April!

At Fireside Chat...things are as toasty as ever. We welcome any and all to gather round the fire and listen to some great music, and chat with some great people. www.fireside-chat.com will get ya there.

The Grammys, Music, Music and More Music!

Well the much anticipated Grammy's have come and gone. In my opinion it was one of the best Grammy Awards I have ever seen, and without telling my age, I have seen quite a few.

I was disappointed that my favorite cutie pie and talented Keith Urban didn't win a Grammy, but I'm over it. He has enough talent in his little finger to make it anyway.

Great time in Fireside Chat last night. Gaelic streamed her usual magic for the listeners, and on Valentine's Day no less. Her first hour "she streamed sappy love songs" her quote...I might add. Those of us who know and love Gaelic know how very hard that was for her to do...haha.

My neice, and Gaelic's daughter turned 15 today. I can't believe it. My little Kelsy, 15 years old. We had a great time over the weekend celebrating her birthday. She has spent every birthday with us since she was born. We celebrated with death by chocolate cake, and homemade lasagna, her favorite things.

Tunesman streamed a great stream on Saturday Night. Cal was absent, so gaelic filled in for him Sunday Night, and she also streamed a kickin' stream Sunday Night. Moon is fronting for our Euro Man...MOVE. Move found a great guitar... a one of a kind Lord Dracula. Lucky man. :)

We're having unusually balmy weather here at Fireside Chat for being in the dead of winter. We don't have to cut as much wood or work too hard carrying out the ashes in the fireplace.

Sounds so smooth it was glassy in Fireside Chat tonight. Wilman came by and paid us a nice visit. We chatted about New Age Music, Native American Music, our favorite Jazz artist, 10e also dropped in and his son Shawn. We just had an event filled night. Of course Gaelic was in the house as well. Just a slow smooth night. A night for sippin' your favorite refreshing beverage and kickin back. Hope you all joined us!

That Dern Ole Groundhog...

From all news account he saw his shadow and ran back into his little hole. Six more weeks of winter weather, if the prognosticators are correct. We had a great time at Fireside tonight. It was all toasy and warm in spite of the freezing rain falling outside. Gatekeeper rocked the house!

Fowl, Colds and Quiche Lorraine

We had a great night in Fireside Chat last night. We were honored to have pay us a visit Sir Bacchus. We had not had the pleasure of his company in quite a while so we were very glad to have him stop by our fireplace and sit a spell. Gaelic...as usual was in the groove, and rocked the house, playing everyones favorite tunes and sneaking a few of her own. MOVE sent an email picture of Quiche Lorraine which made us all hungry. We wondered who actually cooked that delicious looking Quiche...no one really said, but it made us all hungry anyway.

Tonight Moon opens at 10:00 for MOVE from Belgium, and we are looking forward to hearing both the streamers with their own style, Moon's classics and MOVE's Euro Trash...(His own words, by the way.)

You heard it right folks, we have a new streamer I want to welcome to Fireside Chat! MOVE is from Belgium, Europe. I am so tickled that he is willing to share some of his music collection with us at Fireside Chat. He calls his "stuff" Euro Trash... but from what I've heard, it sounds just fine to me..haha

As the Snow Gently Falls....

Yep...we've been snowed in here at Fireside. On top of the snow... which was a beautiful snow... clinging to the branches of the trees, I had to go and catch a nasty case of bronchitis/pneumonia.
Thanks to all of the wonderful streamers at Fireside. They haven't missed a beat by keeping the fires burning in my absence. I applaud you all.

After seeing the doc, and getting two shots, (won't tell where) I am feeling some better and will be rejoining the room soon. Also, just to keep you updated...MOVE may finally start to stream on Tuesdays. He is in Belgium, so keep in mind that it's about 3:00 a.m. when he starts to stream, so go easy on him. He does have a lot of Euro Trash Music, however, that we are all dying to hear!

Well the tunesman360 has struck again. He rocked the Fireside Chat House last night. When tunesman shut down MOONitic just got started with the songs from the 70's. The mood was jovial and lighthearted...with tunesman being his usual self...and gaelic, cal, maggie, cobs, KayDee, Paladin, Daisy, MOONitic, peaches and some other listeners out there....want to give a huge shout out to PD and mags brother. Thanks to everyone for making Fireside Chat a great place to be on a cold winter's night. It was sooooo cold...we had to deice...well..ya had to have been there...:)

Despite many technical problems with the server last night, the spirit of the Fireside Chat streamer prevails. MOONitic's debut stream was not without a hitch, however in spite of the internet's many internal glitches, MOON's stream shone. He streamed many classics and ROCKED the HOUSE with the likes of Jackson Browne and Backman Turner Overdrive! All in attendance were awed by the light of MOONitic in full glory.

Dancing On The Mountaintops

Yeah! One of my lifetime goals has finally been accomplished. I have finished my book!

INTRODUCTION TO THE BEGINNING

This story began so long ago...I do not even know the exact date. It began with my father’s father, and his father’s father and so on and so forth. At the time of this writing, my father had traced his ancestral line back twelve generations.

I am making an attempt to pick up the search because he is no longer here to do so, and he left his volumes of information, material and hundreds of pieces of scrap papers with little gems of tidbits of knowledge scribbled on them.

Shortly before he died he told me he wanted me to have all of this information and to further the search for our ancestors. He truly felt that we did not know where we were going in life...if we didn’t know where we came from.

At first this information was left in a box and shuffled around from one move to another. I would occasionally open the box, look around at all the bits and pieces that my Dad had worked on so diligently and with great joy over the years, then I would gently and almost reverently place all the pieces back into their files and place them back in the box and store it all away again.

I felt like I needed to get started on this project, but never actually gathered up the courage or strength to actually hear the gun shot at the starting line, and run with it! I often prodded my Dad to start a book about his own family line, and he would always laugh and say he didn’t know where to start. Now, after sifting through all of his copious notes, reading a thousand little scribbles with birth dates, and decipherings of almost illegible ancient script, I understand his statement and his dilemma.

Here’s my attempt. I hope he would understand my feeble offerings, approve of my efforts to keep our family stories alive, with a few genealogy records thrown in for good measure.

Just as a side note; most of these family stories are written in our own mountain language. So please forgive the grammar and lack of formal English in some of these stories. I think the tone and personalized language of our mountain people, make the stories unique.
